condominium, interesting place
Former Polhemus Memorial Clinic which was built in 1897 as a free clinic to serve the poor and underprivileged in the area. In addition to a clinic, it was a teaching hospital for the former Long Island College Hospital and had one of the first x-ray machines in the United States. The clinic was donated by Caroline Harriman Polhemus, a member of the prominent Harriman family, whose husband, Henry Ditmas Polhemus, was the regent of the hospital for nearly two decades. The building served its function until 2014 when the hospital was shut down.
It is now luxury condos, redeveloped by Fortis Property Group.
