Gowanus is a neighborhood in the New York City borough of Brooklyn. Gowanus Bay was the site of the first Dutch settlement in what is now Brooklyn in 1636. The area became an industrial center with the construction of the Gowanus Canal and remains one of the few manufacturing areas in NYC to this day.
