residence, LIGC - Long Island Gold Coast, Georgian (architecture)
Estate home designed c. 1914 by Walker & Gillette in the Georgian Revival style for Irving Brokaw {attorney, artist}. In addition to being a descendent of Isaac Vail Brokaw (founder of the Brokaw Brothers Clothing Co.), Brokaw was a famed figure skater. of the time. His brother Howard Crosby Brokaw lived in Muttontown at "The Chimneys". The 9 bedroom, 11 bathroom home had landscaping by Olmsted and a complex U-shaped outbuilding complex by Walker & Gillette containing stables for cows and horses, a dairy, a garage and wagon shed.
Brokaw soon moved nearby to "Goose Point" around 1926. The "Frost Mill Lodge" estate was acquired by R. Brinkley Smithers about 1960 and by descent to the Smithers family who used it as the headquarters for the Christopher D. Smithers Foundation until it was sold in 2000 to become a private home. The residence has since become part of the Shu-Swamp Protection Area and has underwent a home showcase in the late 2000's and then in 2014.
