Multi-owned plant (GenOn Energy in partnership)

1711-megawatt coal-fired power plant by the Conemaugh River. Its two steam turbines began commercial operation in 1970 and 1971. The plant is run by Reliant Resources and owned by a consortium of mid-Atlantic power companies.

The Conemaugh plant is located along Route 711 and the Conemaugh River about 13 miles northwest of Johnstown, Pa. The facility consists of two coal-fired, steam-electric generation units and four diesel-fired combustion turbine generators rated at 2.75 megawatts each. The plant also has four cooling towers. Scrubbers on both units help reduce the sulfur dioxide emissions from the plant.
