vulytsia Velyka Zhytomyrska (Kyiv)


Velyka Zhytomyrska Street is located in Shevchenko district in Kiev, Old City area. It leads from the Mykhailovska Square to the Lvovska Square. These streets are joined to the Velyka Zhytomyrska Street: Vladimirska, Streletska, Olessia Gonchara, Sretenskaya and Reitarska.

It is one of the oldest streets in Kiev. It appeared in XI century during the Kiev Rus period. It was the road to Zhytomyr.

In the beginning of XIX century it consisted of two parts – the upper and lower part. In 1869 these both parts of one street got their own names – Mala Jytomerska and Bolshaya Jytomerska. In 1923-1941 and 1943-1944 it had a different name – Gorovitsa Street. Current name was restored in 1944.

On this street you can visit the Sretenska Church, the St.Serafime Chapel and also a new church is being built on this street now. In the house #9 there is a new Church of Ioane Zlatoust.

On this street you can visit: business center Panorama, trade chamber of Ukraine, the Ministry of regional development and building of Ukraine, Ukrainian Diplomatic academy.
