This marks the approximate spot of the world famous Jeyes Fluid factory

Jeyes Sanitary Compounds Ltd, Richmond Street, Plaistow, was formed in 1885 to manufacture the famous disinfectant which is known the world over as Jeyes Fluid.

John Jeyes who patented his fluid in 1879 was the Pioneer of Germicide and built his factory in the grounds of Richmond House.

Richmond House was built in the early 19th century and had been the home of John Curwen in 1860(1816-1860), who was the famous Congregational Minister and Publisher (Curwen Press).

Richmond House was demolished in 1930.

Jeyes factory is now covered by a Housing Estate.
