The Edgewood Cutoff rail line was completed by the Illinois Central Railroad during May 1928. This cutoff has three tunnels, and this is the longest at 6,994'. The State of Illinois had a total of 8 tunnels, of which 4 remain in use. This route is now part of Canadian National, and is only used by freight trains.
