Twin bore tunnel on the C&O main line over 1 mile in length. Original bore completed between 1867 and 1870, second bore completed between 1930 and 1932. Currently only the newer (south) bore is used. Arguable site of the race between a man named John Henry and a steam powered drilling machine.
