An imposing Richardsonian Romanesque mansion stood on this site. Constructed in 1890 for the wealthy Plumer family, it remained a residence into the mid 20th century. In 1954, the house was converted into the new studio for WAUW (then WSAU) TV. The original station mascot was Sir Seven, a knight in armor, and was adapted from a suit of armor that was displayed in the mansion. The station moved to new facilities on Grand Avenue in 1971. Historic preservation was not yet in vogue and the house was demolished the next year to provide parking for the First Presbyterian Church next door. Quite possibly the greatest loss of a historic structure in Wausau.
