Now: typical community park. History: During WW1, families were encouraged to plant "Victory Gardens" in which they would grow their own food. This was the community Victory Garden for the neighbourhood - every family had a plot. Once the war was over and interest in the garden project waned, the garden was turned into a park. Teams of horses were used to level the playing field. Before the park was "spruced up" there was a swampy area at the north-east corner of the park. That froze every winter, and kids skated there.
