The Magic Spring Complex

One of the Devnya karst springs, about 50 x 20 feet large but seemingly very deep crystal-clear pool with mysterious blue-green shades, surrounded by dense forest and marshland along the crystal river Devnya, about 30-40 feet wide and up to 3-4 feet deep. The water is quite warm, feels over 20 degrees C, and abounds in water plants waving in the stream. A pretty nice traditional tavern that used to be a watermill is located on the spot. It's hard to believe this idyllic place is just a few hundred feet away from Italcementi manufacturing facilities. Easy access from Haemus motorway (and the old E-70) at Devnya/Suvorovo exit towards Devnya, follow signs to Devnya Cement. A little before Devnya Cement, a small green sign "Механа Вълшебния извор" - in Bulgarian only - points to a narrow paved alley through a forest to the left.

  • This is the most unique mill I'ver seen or even heard of. In order to power the mill the well was walled in to a height of aproximately 3m above the surounding ground that the mill is built on. The sluiceway then directs the water over the wheel. Most interesting. Also the restaurant fare is delicious and the atmosphere most relaxing.
