interesting place, notable event
The current site of the Presidential Inauguration Ceremony is the West Front of the US Capitol Building. Traditionally (from 1821-1977) the ceremony was held on the East Portico of the Capitol building; but in 1981, President Ronald Reagan broke with tradition and had the ceremony held on the West Front. This helped to accommodate more visitors to view the swearing-in. Since that time (barring extreme weather) the inaugurations have been held at this location.
