Holmes Run Acres

USA / Virginia / Annandale /
subdivision (housing subdivision), neighbourhood, NRHP - National Register of Historic Places, interesting place, historic district

Holmes Run Acres is a mid-century modern community listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The community consists of 355 houses whose designs were inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright's 'usonian' homes. Built between 1951 to 1958, many of the homes of this neighbourhood were based on primarily 4 distinct models designed by the architects Donald Lethbridge & Nicolas Satterlee. Many of contemporary ranch-styled homes consist of floor-to-ceiling windows, carports, and other then-innovative features from the 1950s & 1960s. Holmes Run Acres is particularly noted for its dense natural wooded areas, its lack of pedestrian sidewalks, and its ability to attract architects, engineers, and other artists into its community.
