Oxshott Heath is a heathland in Oxshott, Surrey having an interesting geology where the London Clay stratum meets the overlying sand stratum and emerges to the surface. This has created a sand escarpment, from which views to Box Hill (near Dorking) can be made out to the South. The top of the escarpment is also home to the war memorial.

  • Road that runs from Oxshott to Esher on the north side of this, Warren Lane/Copsem Lane was the setting for a Sherlock Holmes story, can't remember which one now. In the early 1970's there was enough snow a couple of winters to toboggan down from the "ridge", where the war memorial is a couple of hundred yards to the west of the station.
  • Some sixty years ago there were massive ant hills at Oxshott Heath. They were up to nearly a metre high and a couple of metres across at the base. There were millions of ants of course. What became of these huge colonies of ants.
