A commuter town with its own railway station of the same name consisting of the two now indistinct parishes of Great Bookham and Little Bookham. Francis Howard, 5th Baron Howard of Effingham was baptised in Great Bookham in 1643 and was Governor of Virginia. Also baptised here were some of the other Howards based at the Howard of Effingham estate to the West. Bookham is in the post town of Leatherhead.
