Founded in 1948, Coast Guard Training Center Cape May is the primary receiving and training location for the all enlistees to the United States Coast Guard.

New USCG recruits are exposed to all facets of US Coast Guard service at the Cape May Training Center, ranging from firearm training and proficiency, small and large boat and cutter operations, air operations and specialized courses for their future careers with the Coast Guard.

The grounds of Coast Guard Training Center Cape May are also home to USCG Station Cape May, home to several small boat units as well as the Cutters USCGC Finback (WPB-87314) USCGC Ibis (WPB-87338), USCGC Mako (WPB-87303), USCGC Dependable (WMEC-626) & USCGC Vigorous (WMEC 627). The station was also home to the US Coast Guard's first Air Station, when CG AirSta Cape May commissioned in 1926 on ground formerly operated by one of the US Navy's lighter-than-air squadrons. Remaining in operation until 1998, CG AirSta Cape May was consolidated with several other units to form the new CG AirSta Atlantic City.
