This is perhaps the oldest formal part of Karachi. The wall surrounding the city was brought down by the British. Today the Rampart Road, the Newnham Rd., Suleiman lane, and the Embankment road. mark the former position of the wall. The area within was also known as the old Town Quarter or the Native Quarter.
