"Muscle Beach Venice" (Los Angeles, California)

 landmark, gymnastics

After the closing of the Original Muscle Beach by the Santa Monica Pier in 1959, bodybuilding attention shifted south to the somewhat lesser-known Venice Beach Weight Pen, operated by the Los Angeles Recreation and Parks Department. It was a small, spartan weight pen built near Windward in 1952, later replaced by the large current facility, named "Muscle Beach Venice," in 1982.
