An island of the Azores noted for its eponymous volcano, Ponta de Pico (Pico Alto), which is the highest mountain of Portugal and also the highest elevation of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge.
This is a great place to bicycle or walk and the scenery is very beautiful. They grow grapes here that are used to make wine. There is an interesting whale hunting museum on the north side of the island.
