Town of Chapel Hill, North Carolina

The archetype of the American college town, Chapel Hill was laid out concurrently with the establishment of the University of North Carolina in 1794. The town and university have been tightly intertwined over time, so that the town celebrated its bicentennial with the University in 1994, even though the town was not officially incorporated until the early 1800's.

Floyd Council, blues singer (the "Floyd" in Pink Floyd) was born in Chapel Hill.

  • I've lived here since I was around 6 and am about to go off to college. Chapel Hill is one of the most wonderful places I have been if you like small towns. Its a lovely liberal oasis in the middle of a very red state and region.
