The San Clemente Beach Club (as it was originally named by Ole Hanson) was designed by the renowned Virgil Westbrook who designed most of the first buildings in San Clemente, built by contractor Roy Strang who built many of them, and dedicated in May of 1928, just three years after the city was founded. It boasted an Olympic size pool and became the site for the 1932 Olympic tryouts. Champion swimmers and divers such as Johnny Weismuller, Buster Crabbe and Duke Kahanamoku were among those who swam here. The club rooms have been used through the years for civic, club, and family events such as weddings, birthday celebrations, and club meetings.

It has been in perpetual use since its dedication. It still serves our citizens of all ages today as was Ole Hanson’s dream when he gave it to the town nearly eighty years ago.
