"St. Nedelya" (Kyriaki) church was built in 1813. During the April Uprising, it is the last stronghold of the residents of Batak. History has ordained this church to become a relic for every Bulgarian. In the spring of 1876 thousands of residents of Batak dared to turn sight to the light of freedom. Today, their struggle for freedom embodies the dream of a free Bulgaria. The chronology of events and every nation's right of spiritual and physical freedom transformed this shrine into a symbol of one of the most significant events in Bulgarian history, the April Uprising, which is the peak of the national liberation struggles of the Bulgarians.
Today the ossuary-church "Sv. Nedelya" in Batak Town is one of the most visited sites in Bulgaria.
