Apartment complex designed in 1971 by A.H. Salkowitz. It was built on the site of the Former Glen Oaks Country Club which had been established on land purchased from William K. Vanderbilt's "Deepdale" estate. The property boasts the highest point on Queens County NY at 258 feet above sea level. Amenities include a massive underground arcade with a bank, grocery store, drugstore, library, art studio, club, and gym.

  • When you see these from the Long Island Expressway, you know you're very close to New York City. When I was a kid, I used to think that when you saw them, you were IN New York City.
  • Me too, Dan.....but of course since they're in Queens they ARE technically in NYC!

  • Exactly, john. You see, getcrunk, I know that they're in New York City, but I've always been able to see them from east of New Hyde Park Road(Exit 34). The thing is, I used to think that alone was the defining border between NYC and Nassau County, and it wasn't until around middle childhood that I realized this wasn't the case. Plus, NYSDOT didn't have a border sign on the LIE until the mid-1970's.
