Second World War 1939-1945, place with historical importance, bunker, interesting place, invisible

This is the Führerbunker exact location.

The Führerbunker (German, literally meaning "shelter/bunker [for the] leader" or "[the] Führer's shelter") was located beneath Hitler's New Reich Chancellery in Berlin, Germany. It was in this subterranean bunker where Adolf Hitler and his wife Eva Braun spent the last few weeks of the war and where their lives came to an end on April 30, 1945.

The elaborate complex consisted of two separate levels, the Vorbunker (the upper bunker) or "forward bunker" and the newer Führerbunker located one level below. They were connected by a stairway set at right angles (they were not spiral). The Führerbunker was located about 8.2 metres beneath the garden of the old Reich Chancellery building at Wilhelmstraße 77, about 120 metres north of the new Reich Chancellery building, which had the address Voßstraße 6. The Vorbunker was located beneath the large hall behind the old Reich Chancellery, which was connected to the new Reich Chancellery. The Führerbunker was located somewhat lower than the Vorbunker and west (or rather west/south-west) of it.

  • I agree the location is right, but I dissagree about the size of it in accordance with the small square provided. I have read that the Bunker was much larger. Indeed it was two Bunkers communicating with each other with coridor. One for Hitler and his (VIP ?) proteges and one for the Soldiers Guards Cooks Secreteries etc etc. The size of the Bunker I pressume was extended more to the left under the current street for at least 100 meters to the West.
  • I wondr why it was even destroyed? so much coud be discoverd if it wer still accessable
  • Was not destroyed, just sealed and fogotten. Hitler's room is still there, flooded with one metre of water.
  • Excellent news Carl! Some lucky archaeologist will have the pleasure of rediscovering it at some future date. Rather like unearthing Nero's fabled Domus Aurea.
  • Hitler's bunker was made less than easily accessible due to the "religious" nature of the site. The powers which were landlords in Axis areas after the spring of 1945 were dealing with a religious cult in Japan and also Axis areas of Europe. Amongst other things, Hitler and Mussolini were charismatic priest-figures. It was very important to eliminate the Himmler/Hitler religion, and therefore many sites were severely destroyed and molested.
  • The bunker was in 2 sections. Only the section personally used by Hitler (as opposed to the other top Reich officials) is shown. The other section is the same overall size, and is to the right of, and 3 metres more elevated than, the Hitler section.
