Early in his reign, Vlad the Impaler had send emissaries to the Ottoman Sultan and paid tribute to keep him at arm's length. The annual tribute consisted of 10000 ducats and 500 boys. In 1461, Vlad explained in a letter that he had no more resources and could not leave Wallachia at that precarious time. Next, Vlad attacked and burned an Ottoman stronghold and 2 crossing points of the Danube. Nearly 24000 heads of Turks and Bulgarians were presented to the officials. Place of the battle against turks in 1461, Comana Monastery was founded by Vlad Tepes on the bank of the Neajlov River, this batlle to be remembered, which is documentary dated back from 27 september 1461. First monastery was made by wood and burned down. It was rebuilted by Radu Serban at the end of the 16th century. Vlad Dracula was killed in battle with the Ottomans his body was decapitated and his head was send to Constantinople, where the Sultan had it displayed on a stake as proof that the notorious Impaler was dead and the body was burried in Comana Monastery, and not in Snagov Monastery, as wrongly appeared in different books. Also in this monastery were burried prince Radu Serban and his family, Nicolae Patrascu, son of the prince Mihai Viteazul (Michael the Brave), and the Cantacuzino family.
