Fürstenberg Soviet Nuclear Missile Base, Nuclear Storage Bunkers

Germany / Brandenburg / Furstenberg /
abandoned / shut down, Cold War 1947-1991, closed / former military, nuclear weapons/warheads storage

In early 1959, according to conventional wisdom, 12 Soviet R-5M (SS-3 Shyster) Nuclear Missiles were stationed at the two German cities of Fürstenberg and Vogelsang. The Nuclear Missiles were withdrawn again in August 1959; they were then deployed at Gvardeysk (Kaliningrad). AT both sites are standard Nuclear Warhead Bunkers, as observed at every SS-3, SS-4 and SS-5 site. By the way, the corresponding Launch Pads are at 53°10'3"N 13°16'46"E (Fürstenberg, just next to the “Kernwaffendepot Himmelpfort”) and at 53°7'14"N 13°22'9"E. The interesting thing about the launch pads is that they are configured for R-12 (SS-4 Sandal) Nuclear Missiles – a missile with twice the range of the R-5M.
