The 91-acre Gateway Arch National Park was established in 1935 as Jefferson National Expansion Memorial and is run by the National Park Service. Its most well-known attraction is the Gateway Arch, but St Louis's Old Courthouse and the Museum of Western Expansion are also located on the site.

The site is historically significant for a number of reasons. It's considered the traditional embarkation point for many of the US's early western settlers, and the courthouse was the site of the Dred Scott trial's earliest hearings.
