 neighbourhood, draw only border

An unincorporated neighborhood in north-central St. Louis, with a diverse group of residents of African American descent. There are numerous small to large businesses, as well as an historic heritage with landmarks like Old Sportsman Park, once home of the St. Louis Browns and St. Louis Cardinals, which is now home to Herbert Hoovers Boy's and Girl's Club. Carter Carburetor Corporation also operated here until the factory closed in 1985.

The neighborhood experienced decline from 1990 to 2000 but has recently seen development by Habitat for Humanity. Controversy surrounding neglected properties owned by developer Paul J. McKee, Jr. is attracting the ire of area residents witnessing abandoned homes and historic structures succumbing needlessly to weathering and deterioration. Neighborhood associations spearheading initiatives for community improvement include United Neighbors of Lindell Park, Whole New Area, and North Grand Business and Merchants Association.
