Peugonda is a Mandal Head quarter.There r 17 villages in this mandal (mdl code-52) of Ananthapur Dt, AP & the villages are:1 Duddebanda, 2 Gutturu, 3 Munimadugu, 4 Cherlo palle, 5 Vasudevapuram, 6 Erramanchi, 7 Gondipalle, 8 Obulapuram, 9 Penukonda (rural), 10 Rampuram, 11 Kondampalle, 12 Bojji reddipalle, 13 Settipalle, 14 Gonipeta, 15 Adadakula palle,16 Mavaturu, 17 Nagaluru.
Penugonda is Mandal Head quarter and one of the fort of Vijayanagara kings (also served as Capital after the death of Srikrishna devaraya). Mahamantri Thimmarusu was blinded (eyes removed) and was kept in jail in this place as Krishna devaraya has fallen into the trap of the enemies camp who created rift between him and miister Appaji Thimmarusu.
