Engel Field. 1130 East 3rd Street, Chattanooga, TN

Opened 1930. Home of the Chattanooga Lookouts from 1930-1999. Also home to Negro League Chattanooga Choo-Choos in the late 1940s. Currently in use by UT-Chattanooga and various high school teams. Seats approx. 7500.

Distance of 471 feet to dead center field is one of the longest in professional baseball. Last few feet of center field slopes sharply upwards. Pole in center field for stadium lights is in play. Balls ricocheting off light pole are in play. Harmon Killibrew is the only recorded player to hit a home run to straight away center.

On March 28, 1931, Jackie Mitchell, a 17 year old girl just signed by the Lookouts, accomplished the astonishing feat of striking out Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig back to back with only seven pitches during an exhibition game against the New York Yankees.
