Originally the Indiana State Reformatory. (severely damaged by fire on 6 FEB 1918)
Colgate-Palmolive-Peet Co. purchased the plant in 1921 and began production there in 1924.
The facility produced a wide range of soaps, detergents, and personal care products.
It was Southern Indiana's oldest civilian employer. Closed in December 2007.
