The N.Y. Times has reported that the evening of 13 February 2008 New York Governor Eliot Spitzer booked two rooms in this hotel, one under his own name and room 871 under the name "George Fox."

The real George Fox is a close friend and campaign contributor to Gov. Spitzer, and the Governor has made a personal apology for using Fox's name in this context. The Governor's use of room 871 was for just two hours and he reportedly left the room at 12:03 a.m., three minutes into Valentine's Day.
