CRRNJ Bronx Terminal (New York City, New York)

USA / New Jersey / Edgewater / New York City, New York

The Central Railroad of New Jersey was not new to operations in the Bronx, and had originally utilized the shared Harlem Transfer facility along with the Baltimore & Ohio, Erie, and the Delaware, Lackawanna & Western Railroads. The Delaware, Lackawanna & Western purchased the sole operating rights for that facility, leaving the other railroads to build their own terminals on the Harlem River. CRRNJ purchased the lease to their new location in early 1905, and opened this offline terminal in 1907. An enginehouse was constructed, partially on the bulkhead and partially on piles in the Harlem River in the early 1920's. In the late 20's a substantial addition of yard trackage totalling 95 cars took place. The terminal remained in service until 1961.
