The "Krug" antenna array consisted of a large number of vertical antennas, placed on the circumference a circle. In the middle of the circle there is a building with a similar vertical antenna on the top and filled up with electronic devices.
The main task of the "Krug" system was to test the parameters of the ionosphere and most likely to determine the best operating frequency for the whole over-the-horizon radar.
The optimal propagation frequency are depending on the current ionosphere condition, which changes within the day and is direction dependent.

  • This was an early Russian UHF SATCOM station used to transmit data from the OTH radar site to the National Command Center in Moscow.
  • fools! It was a shortwave receive-only center with direction finding capabilities and had nothing to do with sattelites.
  • Satellite communicative center
