Stechanka was a former village in Ukraine, located in the Ivankiv district of Kyiv Oblast. It was officially removed from records due to the evacuation of its residents following the Chornobyl disaster.
The village has been known as a settlement since the early 17th century and was located 25 km from the city of Chornobyl. Historically, Stechanka was an important administrative, cultural, and religious center of the region. In 1864, the village had two wooden churches: an old, severely deteriorated one built in 1634 (as indicated by an inscription on the iconostasis) and a new one constructed in 1855.
The village was home to not only Orthodox Christians but also Catholics and Jews. In 1886, Stechanka had 556 Orthodox residents, 53 Catholics, and 50 Jews. By the mid-20th century, the village had a population of approximately 1,200 people. Historical records also indicate that a school had existed in the village for a long time.
By 1970, Stechanka had a population of 1,246 people. The village had an eight-year school, a cultural center, a store, a library, and a maternity hospital.
Stechanka was also home to the central estate of the "Pobeda" kolkhoz (a collective farm known as a "kolkhoz-millionaire"), which has remained relatively well-preserved to this day.
Following the Chornobyl disaster, the residents of Stechanka were relocated to the village of Paskivshchyna in the Zghurivka district of Kyiv Oblast.
