Kamandurga situated in Thane district. This can be easily reached from Vasai by ST buses going towards Bhivandi. One has to travel on Mumbai-Ahmedabad National Highway and take a turn from Chinchoti Naka. 6kms drive ahead will take you to Kaman village which is base of the fort. One has to walk 6kms further to Belkadi village from where the trek to the fort actually starts. People residing in Belkadi belong to Adivasi community - Varli and are very helpful. One has to cross 4 water streams and the 3rd stream is 40feet wide. It takes approx 3.5 hrs to reach the top and the route goes through the dense forest and the hike is steep. Taking a guide along with is essential. There are 5 water cisterns on the plateau and a stone with image of an idol carved on it. Climb further on a rock patch to reach the top. 2 more water cisterns and ruins of fortification can be seen. The entire region is covered with thick forest and looks green. A beautiful view of Vasai creak can be seen. There are 2 peaks and one has to descend and make a traverse and then climb from the other side to reach on the second peak.
