This originated as the the grandstand for the exhibition grounds' horse race track. A devastating fire in 1917 destroyed the original grandstand and several other buildings. The grandstand was rebuilt shortly after.

In the 1980s the grandstand was renovated and enclosed in glass, and an additional building was constructed behind it. Renamed Queensbury Downs, the harness racing facility included a banquet hall and meeting rooms.

In 2002, Queensbury Downs ended its life as a horse race facility. The track was closed and new buildings have been built on the land it once occupied. The remaining facilities were rebranded as the Queensbury Convention Centre.
