Established in July of 1992 as a fully autonomous short range radar site in the LAB Sector of the North Warning System, the LAB-1 or Cape Kakiviak radar site is a short-range station that is equipped with AN/FPS-124 radar systems. Controlled through the LAB-2 station at Saglek to the South, the LAB-1 station is the Northernmost facility in the LAB sector and is accessible only by helicopter.
