Terminal 1 opened in phases between 2004 and 2006. Architect Moshe Safdie describes it as a "bold, curvilinear form with large spaces and long, arched roof spans - a geometry reminiscent of the 1960s building it replaced, with light and spacious interiors, finished in white, soft greys and brushed aluminum and punctuated with high-tech details."

Air Canada, Air Canada Express, and Air Canada Rouge fly to every darn place in the world from Terminal 1, as close as Ottawa and as far as Hong Kong. Other airlines and destinations (as of January 2017):

Austrian Airlines (Wien)
Avianca (San José, San Salvador)
Brussels Airlines (Brussels)
Copa Airlines (Panamá)
EgyptAir (Cairo)
Emirates (Dubai)
Ethiopian Airlines (Addis Ababa)
