Part of the Halifax Defence Complex, it was built around start of World War 1 and originally had two 9.2-inch breech loading guns, and two 6-inch breech loading guns. During World War 2 the two 6-inch guns were retained. The battery was controlled from York Redoubt.

The property is still owned by Department of National Defence and off-limits to the public.
