Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA), train station

This is the former Reading Railroad’s North Broad Street Station, located along the SEPTA main line. It was designed by Horace Trumbauer and was completed in 1928. Reading officials had believed that the area surrounding the station was ripe for extensive apartment house development. Moreover, the Classical Revival station was located opposite the Phillies' ballpark—the Baker Bowl. North Broad Street Station did serve residents in the northern section of Philadelphia for many years, but few passengers used it by the mid-fifties—the apartment projects never materialized and the ballpark was demolished in 1950. So the Reading Company closed the station in 1960 and abandoned it. Now office and residential space for a non-profit educational/correctional organization, the structure is on the National Register of Historic Places.
