Completed in stages from 1902-1910, 15 floors, 270 ft (82.3m).

The building served as the flagship of the John Wanamaker department store empire for decades. A portion was converted to offices in the 1980s as the need for gigantic urban department stores declined.

Wanamaker's retained its name until its stores were rebranded by new owners as Hecht's in 1995. The Center City location was again renamed Lord & Taylor in 1997 and finally Macy's in Aug 2006. Each time, the store component of the building shrank, until it reached the small portion of the building it currently occupies, around the historic atrium.

The Wanamaker building is home to the world's largest still operational pipe organ and to a fantastic annual Christmas light show.
