Sundown is an attractive frame house thought to date from the late 19th century. It does not appear on the 1848 Hassler Bache map of Hog Island nor on the Beers map of 1873.

Purchased circa 1893 by George Bullock, property then on 14 acres. Bullock also owned the neighboring estate "The Folly" across the road to the east. Property then sold to Dr. Frederick Tilney circa 1921 on 10.5 acres, with the remaining acreage subdivided into half acre lots along what is now Harbor Drive.

Dr. Tilney was a noted neurologist and professor at Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons. An expert in criminology Dr. Tilney published several definitive works on the brain including an 1100 page treatise "The Brain from Ape to Man".

The house was inherited by Dr. Tilney's son, Frederick Jr. who camped out on the grounds in a tent after being denied access to the property because of a property tax dispute.
