The Hon. Wm. T. McCoun was vice chancellor to the first judicial circuit to which he was appointed in 1831. He received his education at the Oyster Bay Academy, studied law with Cornelius J. Bogert of Jamaica, and married Emma, daughter of James Jackson. The house and the adjacent Townsend McCoun house descended to Harriet J. McCoun who was the last of the McCoun family to occupy the home.
