Estate home built c. 1937 in the Colonial style for Harry Cooke Cushing, III {financier, industrialist} on 13 acres of land. Cushing served as a partner in the stock brokerage firm of Herrick, Berg & Co., director of Security Management Corp., Robbins & Sons investment banking firm, Casualty & Surety Reinsurance Co. of America, Seaboard Surety Co., and Chase National Bank. He also served as director of Tower Petroleum Corp., Moroccan Corp., and Cooper Canyon Minerals Co. Cushing moved in 1937 from his estate "Muttontown Farm" on Wheatley Road in Brookville. Cushing resided here with his second wife until his death in the early sixties. The property was then subdivided into the current 8 acre site and three smaller parcels.

  • in the 1980's I lived across the street in Woodstock, the daughter of the Vanderpoels, who built Woodstock, Mrs Hatch, owned this lovely home and I was friends with her cook's son Mario. Wonderful house.
