Shoup Bay State Marine Park has a tidewater glacier that spills into an inner bay. The inner bay is full of a variety of nesting birds, and mountain goats and bears can be seen on the mountain slopes.

Shoup Bay was the site of the highest tsunami wave height recorded following the 1964 earthquake, towering 67 meters (260 ft - as tall as a 20-story building)
