Kelly Building

USA / New Jersey / Hoboken / West 14th Street, 400
 bar, condominium

5-story Neo-Grec residential building completed in 1886. Designed by Joseph M. Dunn as a warehouse for James Alfred Roosevelt, the brother of future president Theodore. It is clad in orange brick, with connecting stone sills and lintels, and a textured brick band beneath each floor's window sills. The ground floor is black cast-iron, with fluting on the pilasters, topped by a cornice. The main entrance is at the west end. At the roof is a textured brick parapet. An advertising sign structure was mounted on the roof in 2000.

Early tenants here were produce and fruit merchants, grocers, and a piano manufacturer. Later tenants included meat and poultry packers, paper box makers, and cosmetics, upholstery and printing companies. In the 1970s, a number of gay clubs opened here. Until a very recent renovation, it read "KELLY BUILDING" above the 3rd story on the West 14th Street facade of the structure. The upper floors were converted to condominiums, and the ground floor is occupied by Gucci.
