Hotel Gansevoort (New York City, New York)

 hotel, restaurant, bar, high-rise, 2004_construction

164-foot, 14-story modernist hotel completed in 2004. Designed by the Stephen B. Jacobs Group, it is clad in zinc-colored metal panels and tinted glass. A suspended metal awning wraps around the corner at 9th Avenue and 13th Street. Three sandblasted, internally-illuminated opaque glass columns with special LED lights flank the hotel's entrance on 9th Avenue. The "light columns" create the nighttime illusion that they actually support the strucutre. The facade features window bays that project from the wall, and glass-sheathed balconies.

The signature feature of the hotel is its rooftop, featuring a landscaped roof garden and a 45-foot outdoor heated pool with underwater music anchoring the roof's other side. A curving, steel structure crowns the roof. The ground floor shares the lobby with Carte Blanche Cafe & Bar.
