140-foot, 14-story hotel completed in 2000, with 463 rooms. Designed by Perkins Eastman Architects with interiors by Jill Greaves, it sits on an irregular 5-sided plot and features a grand atrium rising nearly the full height of the building. It has a 2-story base of grey granite. Above, the facade is mostly clad in red brick, with some horizontal bands of grey brick, and areas of glass and metal, in particular the green glass curtain wall above the entrance, with its suspended metal canopy, enclosing the atrium.
It was originally the Embassy Suites New York. When Goldman Sachs built their new headquarters next door, they purchased this property as well from Forest City Ratner for $300 million, closing the hotel to be renovated into New York’s first branch of the high-end Conrad brand in 2010-12. Since they do not own the site, Hilton Worldwide only manages the operations of the property as a hotel. The building also houses three restaurants, Vintry Fine Wines, Bloom florist, and a Regal Cinema.
The lobby was renovated in 2013 by Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates. It is now a privately-owned public space. It features a Sol LeWitt mural entitled "Loopy Doopy" which spans 100x30ft or 13 stories of the atrium that was inherited from the build as an Embassy Suites hotel. A hanging sculptural form of suspended tubular triangles and rectangles on a veil of strings by Monica Ponce de Leon Studio was added along with curvilinear sofas below by Kuwabara Payne McKenna Blumberg Architects. There are also over 2,000 prints/lithographs selected by the New York Public Art Fund located throughout the building by artists like Frank Stella, Ellsworth Kelly, Dan Flavin, Jeff Koons, and Christo & Jeanne-Claude.
The first floor interior was used as a filming location for "Gossip Girl".
