The Boboshevo Monastery St. Demetrius (medieval mоnastery) is located on the eastern slope of Boboshevski Ruen Peak (1,134.2 m a.s.l.), about 4 km from the town of Boboshevo.
Boboshevo Monastery was founded during the Second Bulgarian Kingdom and is one of the oldest Bulgarian monasteries. It was destroyed during the fall of Bulgaria under Turkish rule and was rebuilt in the 15th century. From the old monastery complex only the church remains, which is decorated with frescoes.
In the period from the 15th to the 18th century, the Boboshevo Monastery was an important literary center, and a cell school functioned next to it.
Currently, the Boboshevo Monastery is non-functioning and is a complex of a church and residential buildings located about 500 meters northeast of it. The church is single-nave with a semi-cylindrical vault, gabled roof and a small narthex. An inscription above the entrance announces the year of the writing of the church (1488) and the names of the founders - Hieromonk Neophyte and his sons priests Dimitar and Bogdan. In the niche above the entrance is presented the patron "St. Demetrius on horseback", and on the west wall of the nave are preserved two scenes from the life of the saint - "St. Nestor" before Emperor Maximilian" and "The Martyrdom of St. Demetrius". The frescoes in the church follow the established in the Middle Ages decorative decoration system Among the traditional plots are the scenes of Christ's earthly sufferings with their dynamics and expressive power. The iconostasis of the church dates from the 17th-18th century, which makes it one of the oldest in the Bulgarian lands. doors (17th century) and three icons, the most interesting being that of St. Demetrius on a horse stepping on a scorpion.
